In the countryside, there was never a day we got bored. Even when we thought there was nothing to do and sat down, puzzled, on the stone steps of the porch, we would catch ourselves watching a whole universe unfold right in front of us. The bees were always busy with their work, the worms ran from the hens as fast as their little bodies could carry them, ladybugs landed on us to catch their breath, and we coaxed them into one more flight toward the place where we would one day get married. "Ladybug, ladybug, fly to the glade. Wherever you land, that is where I'll be wed."

And just like that, we found things to do. We would draw another cup of cold water from the bucket at the well, and start cooking up a soup made from grandma's flowers in front of the house. We would discover a new bug we had never seen before. And of course, we always had the option of climbing a tree and eating the best dessert in the universe.
